Hitachi HDS728080PLAT20 was a hard drive model created by Hitachi, although most if not all units were actually built by ExcelStor. It was a 80 GB (though using a non-standard LBA count) PATA 3.5" hard drive, and succeeds the previous Hitachi HDS722580VLAT20; while both are mechanically similar, the HDS728080PLAT20 uses a new platform, Pathfinder, and can be distingusihed by lacking a raised dome above the spindle motor. The purely ExcelStor-badged equivalent model is the ExcelStor Technology J880; other similar models from other manufacturers include the ST380011A, WDC WD800LB-xxDNA/WDC WD800BB-xxJHCx/xxJKCx/xxFRAx/xxFJAx, and SAMSUNG SP0802N/SP0822N. This model was succeeded by the Hitachi HDS721680PLAT80, which is built on Pathfinder's successor platform, Pathfinder-II.
