Toshiba DT01ABA
Toshiba DT01ACA was a hard drive family created by Toshiba. This family consisted of rebranded Hitachi Deskstar 5K1000.B and other unreleased Hitachi models, which were acquired from the acquisition of 3.5" drive assets from the Western Digital and Hitachi acquisition, during which WD was forced to divest assets to Toshiba.[1] All models in this family spin at either 5,700 or 5,940 RPM.[2] This family was accompanied by the Toshiba DT01ACA family, which carried 7,200-class RPM drives and were based on Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.Ds, and the Toshiba DT01-V, which are based on Hitachi CinemaStar 5K1000.B models; both accompaniments remain in production. All of the DT01ABA models except the DT01ABA050 received equivalent Toshiba E300 rebrands with new labelling.
For unknown reasons, this family was discontinued in 2015; the DT01ACA family remains in production.
Trivia
- It is currently unknown what motivated Toshiba to discontinue this family, considering the relative popularity that 5,400 RPM drives enjoy in this capacity segment (like the WD Green and WD Blue 5,400 family).
