TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 is a hard drive model created by Toshiba. It is a 3.5" 3 TB 7,200 RPM CMR hard drive, and is a rebadged unreleased Hitachi Deskstar drive, namely the Hitachi HDS723030BLE640, which early models identified to host as.

This drive no longer has direct competitors, but it formerly competed with the ST3000DM001-1CH166/-1ER166/-9YN166 and ST3000DM008-2DM166. This model also has a retail rebadge as the TOSHIBA HDWD130.

History

Following an initial wave of 1-platter drives, the DT01ACA300 was part of an initial wave of multi-platter drives based on the 2- and 3-platter Hitachi HDA, released in August 2012.[1]

Prior to approximately December 2012, drives of this model identify using the Hitachi HDS723030BLE640 name, despite the DT01ACA300 model number being printed on the label.[2] These early batches also contained Hitachi-specific parameters such as MLC and P/N, which were removed from later batches, leaving only one identifier code, the DRIVE REV. They also contain two serial numbers; the Hitachi-assigned one, which followed Hitachi's normal convention, and a "T S/N", which was the Hitachi serial number with the first three letters replaced with a Toshiba-style date of manufacture code, and four letters added to the end, one followed by three more.

Trivia

  • The DT01ACA300, like most Hitachi desktop drive firmware (dating back all the way to the IBM Deathstar family), has a bugged Power-off Retract Count counter; it always matches Load/Unload Cycle Count, even if the hard drive has always been powered down normally. It can sometimes exceed Power Cycle Count and Start-Stop Count, which is also illogical, since there can never be more power-off retracts than there are power cycles. The SMR 3-platter variant based on the same HDA, TOSHIBA DT02ABA600, does not exhibit this issue due to it running native Toshiba firmware; the Power-off Retract Count correctly increments independently from Load/Unload Cycle Count.
  • On drives that have Hitachi logos and label layout, the KCC Authorization Number is listed as KCC-REM-HTB-DS7SAE302 using Hitachi's KCC manufacturer code. Purely Toshiba logo drives instead use the Toshiba KCC Authorization Number code listed in the infobox.
