Western Digital AV-GP is a hard drive family created by Western Digital. It is a variant of the Caviar GP, Green and later Blue 5,400 RPM members designed for consumer electronics DVRs. Since 2018, it is only known as AV-GP in datasheets, with actual units advertising a "Connected Home Hard Drive" slogan instead. It competes with the Toshiba DT01-V family.

History

The AV family was originally released in 2007, along with the initial Caviar GP models which consisted of Spider and Hulk family members. The AV family were binned versions of Caviar GP, Caviar Green and later Blue drives, using 5,400 RPM spindle speeds as opposed to 7,200 RPM used in the AV family. It quickly supplanted the AV family, which was discontinued, leaving the AV-GP family as Western Digital's sole family marketed to DVRs.
