Part of the Western Digital Caviar Green family and the Trails platform, it is a 500 GB 3.5" 5,400 RPM hard drive, and is a single head version of the WDC WD10EZRX-xxA8LBx. It succeeds the WD5000AADS-xxL4Bx and WDC WD5000AADS-xxS9Bx, upgrading cache from 32 to 64 MB, the SATA version from 2.6 to 3.0, and platter density from 500 GB to 1 TB.
