Toshiba S300 is a hard drive family created by Toshiba, designed for small or medium business (SMB) surveillance use. This family consists of a mixture of rebranded Toshiba MD04-V, Toshiba DT02-V, Toshiba DT02-VH as well as Toshiba DT01-V families, whcih are all purpose binned for surveillance use as with the S300.[1] Regular S300s are 5,400 RPM (for most models) or 5,700 RPM (for the HDWV110) and contain SMR models (along with the usual CMR), whereas the related Toshiba S300 Pro split off from the S300 in 2020 exclusively contains 7,200 CMR drives.
History[edit | edit source]
The Toshiba S300 family was announced in 2018, along with the Toshiba V300 series. Along with the arrival of this series came a rebrand of the labels to add more colours, especially to the family name.[2]
In 2020, along with the announcement of the initial two SMR models, the S300 7,200 drives were split into their own subfamily, the S300 Pro.[3][lower-alpha 1] In 2021, a new set of 256 MiB cache models were released, namely the HDWT840 and HDWT860, which are 4 and 6 TB respectively.[4]

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The S300 is the only families to mix native Toshiba and Hitachi HDAs under one family (native Toshiba HDAs are in the HDWT1xx and the entire S300 Pro series, Hitachi HDAs in the the HDWT7xx and HDWT8xx namespaces and the HDWV110). Additionally, including the S300 Pro within, the HDWT namespace is the only Toshiba retail namespace to contain both Hitachi and native Toshiba HDAs. Most namespaces only contain one or the other.
- No CMR model is sold in Asian or American markets.
