It succeeded the [[WDC WD800AAJS-xxTDAx]] as WD's lowest capacity model with only a single head; no 40 GB or smaller model was offered for the Sequoia generation. In addition, as with other Sequoia platform drives, no 16 MiB cache model was offered. Compared to the outgoing WD800AAJS-xxTDAx, this model offers double the platter density at 160 GB as well as introducing ramp loading. This model was succeeded by the [[WDC WD800AAJS-xxWAAx]] derived from the Sequoia PMR platform, which switches to a new PCB and perpendicular magnetic recording.
